We’re thrilled to share the news that Koalaa and our aim to make prosthetics accessible and affordable for everyone on the planet, has captured the attention of Metro Bank – who have named us one of their ‘start-up stars’!
As well as supporting us with our journey to date (a huge thank you to our local business manager Mustafa!) the team invited us to take part in a special campaign, championing ambitious start-up companies.
As such, you’ll soon be seeing Koalaa and what we do, featuring in a range of videos, radio ads and press articles, which are going live in the coming days and weeks!

What are Koalaa soft prosthetics?
Unlike traditional prosthetics, Koalaa soft prosthetics are from material and are lightweight enough to be used by all ages, including babies and toddlers. Their design uses clip-on tools that be interchanged, depending on the task the wearer would like to do. Whether that’s drawing, gardening, playing an instrument, cooking, skipping, riding a bike, or even paddling in a kayak.
They can be ordered online, with no need to visit a clinic and wearers become part of the Koalaa Community, with dedicated support whenever they need it.
Koalaa’s founder, Nate Macabuag, first came up with the idea while at university. With the input of adventurer and quadruple amputee Alex Lewis, he went on to design a completely new type of prosthetic and has since been named in the prestigious Forbes ‘30 under 30’ listing for social impact.
